Ingredients

4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts

4 slices of ham (preferably Swiss or honey ham)

4 slices of Swiss cheese

1 cup all-purpose flour

2 large eggs, beaten

1 cup breadcrumbs (use Panko for an extra crunchy texture)

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon onion powder

1 teaspoon paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

2 tablespoons melted butter or olive oil (for drizzling)

Instructions

Preheat Oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a baking dish by lightly greasing it or lining it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Prepare Chicken: To tenderize the chicken, position each breast between two sheets of plastic wrap or wax paper. Gently pound the chicken with a meat mallet or rolling pin until it reaches about 1/2 inch thickness. This ensures even cooking and a tender bite.

Assemble Cordon Bleu: On each pounded chicken breast, lay down one slice of ham followed by one slice of Swiss cheese. Carefully roll the chicken up from one end to the other, ensuring a snug fit. Secure the rolled chicken with toothpicks or tie with kitchen twine to maintain its shape during baking.

Prepare Breading Station: Set up your breading station with three shallow dishes:

          - In the first dish, combine the flour with salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika.

            - In the second dish, pour in the beaten eggs.

              - In the third dish, place the breadcrumbs.

Bread the Chicken: One at a time, dip each chicken roll into the seasoned flour mixture, shaking off any excess. Next, immerse it fully in the egg wash, allowing any excess to drip off. Finally, roll the chicken in the breadcrumbs, pressing gently to ensure an even coating.

Arrange in Baking Dish: Lay the breaded chicken rolls seam-side down in the prepared baking dish. To promote a golden, crispy texture, drizzle the tops with melted butter or olive oil.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for approximately 25-30 minutes. The chicken is done when it reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the breading is golden brown and crispy.

Serve: Before serving, carefully remove any toothpicks or twine. Garnish the chicken with freshly chopped parsley for a pop of color. This dish pairs beautifully with a refreshing side salad, roasted vegetables, or creamy mashed potatoes.
