Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) extra-firm tofu, pressed and drained

1/4 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup breadcrumbs (use Panko for extra crunch)

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1 teaspoon garlic powder

1 tablespoon soy sauce

2 tablespoons vegetable oil (for frying)

For the Sriracha Honey Sauce:

1/4 cup honey (substitute with agave syrup for a vegan option)

3 tablespoons Sriracha sauce

1 tablespoon fresh lime juice

1 teaspoon sesame oil

1 teaspoon minced garlic

1 teaspoon freshly chopped cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Start by cutting the pressed tofu into uniform bite-sized cubes, aiming for about 1-inch pieces. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cornstarch, Panko breadcrumbs, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Stir well to ensure an even mix.

Coat the Tofu: Gently add the tofu cubes into the bowl with the breadcrumb mixture. Using your hands or a spatula, toss the tofu gently to evenly coat each piece with the mixture without breaking them.

Heat the Oil: In a large skillet, pour in the vegetable oil and heat it over medium-high. Allow the oil to come to a shimmering temperature; this step is crucial for achieving that wonderfully crunchy texture.

Fry the Tofu: Carefully add the coated tofu cubes to the hot oil, ensuring that you leave space between each cube to prevent them from sticking together. If necessary, fry in batches. Cook for approximately 3-4 minutes on each side or until they are golden brown and crispy. Once done, transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil.

Make the Sauce: In a separate small bowl, whisk together the honey (or agave syrup), Sriracha sauce, fresh lime juice, sesame oil, and minced garlic until everything is well combined and smooth.

Glaze the Tofu: Drizzle the prepared Sriracha honey sauce over the crispy tofu bites, and gently toss them to ensure each piece is evenly coated. Alternatively, for a fun presentation, you can serve the sauce on the side for dipping.

Garnish and Serve: Place the glazed tofu bites on a serving platter. Finish with a sprinkle of freshly chopped cilantro on top for a pop of color and flavor. Serve immediately while hot for the ultimate crunch.
