Frozen Yogurt Cherry Almond Swirls

1/2 cup sliced almonds (toasted for added flavor, if desired)

1/4 cup mini chocolate chips (optional)

Prepare the Cherry Sauce: In a small saucepan, combine the frozen cherries with half of the honey or maple syrup. Heat over medium, stirring occasionally. Allow the mixture to simmer for about 5-7 minutes until the cherries soften and release their juices, creating a syrupy sauce. Once ready, remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.

    Mix the Yogurt Base: In a large mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, almond milk, the remaining honey or maple syrup, almond extract, and vanilla extract. Using a whisk, mix the ingredients thoroughly until the yogurt is smooth and creamy, ensuring everything is well incorporated.

      Layering Process: Once the cherry sauce has cooled, take approximately half of the yogurt mixture and spread it evenly at the bottom of a 9x5-inch loaf pan or a similarly sized container to form the first layer.

        Add Cherry Sauce: Drizzle half of the cooled cherry sauce over the first yogurt layer. Then, with a knife or skewer, gently swirl the cherry sauce into the yogurt to create a beautiful marbled effect.

          Repeat Layers: Next, take the remaining yogurt mixture and spread it carefully over the cherry swirl layer, followed by the rest of the cherry sauce. Again, use the knife or skewer to create swirls, enhancing the marbling.
