1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese, plus additional for serving

1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil

2 garlic cloves, finely minced

1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional for a hint of heat)

Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

Extra freshly cracked black pepper, for serving

Cook the Pasta: Fill a large pot with water, add a generous pinch of salt, and bring it to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the package instructions until it is al dente. Once cooked, take a cup of pasta cooking water and set it aside before draining the remaining water. Transfer the drained pasta to a large bowl and let it sit briefly.
