Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded

1 cup cooked bacon, crumbled (approximately 8 strips)

3/4 cup buttermilk

1 tablespoon fresh chives, finely chopped (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Start by preheating your oven to 425°F (220°C). While it heats up, line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and black pepper. Whisk these dry ingredients together until they are well blended.

Incorporate the Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs, with some larger pea-sized pieces of butter remaining for added flakiness.

Add Cheese and Bacon: Gently fold in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and crumbled bacon into the flour mixture, making sure they are evenly distributed throughout.

Add Buttermilk: Create a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the buttermilk. Using a wooden spoon, stir the mixture gently until just combined, being careful not to overmix as this can make the biscuits tough.

Shape the Biscuits: Transfer the dough onto a lightly floured surface. Using your hands, gently pat the dough into a rectangle that is about 1 inch thick. With a biscuit cutter or a glass, cut out biscuits and place them on the prepared baking sheet. Gather any scraps of dough, knead them gently, and cut out more biscuits.

Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the biscuits for 15-18 minutes, or until they are golden brown on the top.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, allow the biscuits to cool on the baking sheet for about 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. For an extra touch, garnish the warm biscuits with finely chopped fresh chives before serving.

Prep Time: 15 min | Total Time: 35 min | Servings: 12 biscuits

Presentation Tips: Serve the biscuits on a rustic wooden board or a vibrant plate, with a small dish of softened butter or a homemade jam on the side for an appealing presentation. Enjoy!
